Last week’s linkage (week 12, 2022)

The Bored Horse newsletter goes out to subscribers on Fridays, free of charge. One section in said newsletter contains links to things I found interesting, things that are not, in fact, published on Bored Horse because it appears that there are other websites on the internet, too. Who would’ve known?!

🇺🇦 Fellow Swede Anders Östlund lives in Kyiv. This is how it’s like, these days.

🇷🇺 A lot of companies have withdrawn from Russia, but not all. Who’s good and who’s bad? This list lets you find out.

You’d think European countries, and the EU, would’ve thought to work towards energy independence from Russia, and they – we – have, it’s just slow going. Well, perhaps not anymore, if this thread is any indication. 👇🏻

🔥 It’s unusually hot in both the Arctic and Antarctica, more than 40C, which is scary. Global warming, it’s still here. The war isn’t helping, either.

🪦 Stephen Wilhite, creator of the GIF, has died.

🦤 Resurrect the dodo. And possibly the mammoth, too. Didn’t that Hollywood documentary tell us how playing god with extinct animals play out in the end?

🤳🏻 NFTs are coming to Instagram, says Mark Zuckerberg. I wonder if they re-introduced the chronological feed to bury this steaming piece of ****?

👊🏻 I enjoyed this piece about attending a crypto bro dinner. Unsurprisingly, it sounds like a newly minted circle of hell.

📺 The Verge tells us that “fringe youtubers”, meaning people who’s videos are advertisement unfriendly for whatever reason, are, according to a study, making money outside of the platform. Well, duh? The story’s worth a look, though.

🦴 Buy some real human bones, maybe?

👂Chew on Mike Tyson’s ear, maybe?

Nope. Just nope. Too many nopes. Excuse me while I answer an email, which I always do like this. 👇🏻

🔒 The FIDO alliance are looking to kill the password. It’s not quite there yet, though, but I find the work strangely fascinating.

📱 It’s been a busy week on Switch to iPad, with two reviews – the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse, and the Remind Me Faster app – as well as newsletter #88, about using said mouse instead of the Magic Trackpad.

🧔🏻‍♂️ Hey, look, Asahi Linux on Apple Silicon. It’s supposed to be blazingly fast, too. No surprises there.

⚔️ There’s a new Conan book coming out.

🥸 This piece argues that finding someone else’s interests or skillset boring, is, in fact, your problem, because you’re boring and lack imagination. It’s the second duh moment in this issue, but the piece was pretty interesting. Now, I know none of my dear bored horsies are actually boring, so consider this educational only.

Okay, let’s wrap it up with some rejected Doomguy designs. 👇🏻
