Quarterly goals (Q1, 2022)

I’m trying something new this year, and that’s setting quarterly goals. Overall, I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, but there’s no denying the symbolic nature of anything rooted in the calendar. After all, most of our days are ruled by Timed Events, as it were.

My quarterly goals are less about abstract things like ”eat less” (less what?) or ”exercise more” (what constitutes as exercise?), and more about things I want to achieve. Achievements, commonly used in digital games for various platforms, are a dopamine kick in their own right. They’re all the sweeter if you share them with others, at least if you’re successful. If you’re not, then having stated a goal in public might be what gives you the extra push to actually achieve it.

So, without further ado, here are my quarterly goals. This is what I want to achieve by the end of March 2022, in no particular order.

There are more things I’d like to put on that list, but I’m reluctant to putting too many goals out there. I want to do a ton of things, always, but overreaching isn’t helping. So, when I’m done, or at least properly on track, with the goals above, I’ll consider picking up that half-finished manuscript, launch that site, and so on.

You’ll note that all my goals are things I want to do, make, create. It doesn’t say ”read twelve books”, which I’d love to do, but I prefer not to consider as a goal. That’s leisure, and research, I guess, but I want to keep things like that apart.

Right, I think I’ll stop there. I’ll revisit this late March, and, if I like the concept of quarterly goals, list new ones for the next quarter. Wish me luck.
